Five Mistakes People Make When Hiring an Electrical Contractor

5 key points to consider when hiring an electrical contractor

  1. The first question should be about our license and insurance. licenses are carried on our person at all times and I can give you my insurance agent by name. Anything other than a yes answer says MOVE ON!

  2. Write down a list of your things to repair or projects. Be clear of what you expect from your contractor. The more communication you have up front will eliminate problems later, trust me.

  3. Expect a free, clear quote on your work in a reasonable time frame. Challenge anything you do not agree with or don't understand. It is your money here. 50%/50% or 40%/30%/30% are typical on larger projects but be prepared to write a check for service calls when your contractor is finished.

  4. Discuss and understand the scheduling on your project and talk about special needs if the power is going to be off for any length of time . Expect your contractor to pick up after himself when the job is done.

  5. Do your homework when choosing a contractor, check the Better Business Bureau for complaints, check websites and Internet reviews. Referrals from friends or relatives work equally as well. Your contractor should be proud of his business and skills and should be more than willing to answer any and all of your questions and supply references if you choose.
